How to Avoid Razor Burn

Razor burn is an itchy and irritating condition in which the skin has been irritated through the use of dull razors, shaving without shaving cream and even from razors that are not created from quality materials. Although razor burn can be annoying; there are many ways that razor burn can be avoided. Use the tips while shaving to help to avoid razor burn.

Avoiding razor burn from shaving with razor blades can be as easy as choosing the right razor blade. When you choose a razor blade that uses strips that moisturize the skin through the process of shaving. These razor blades can help to protect the skin as they are exposed to the skin immediately after the razor blade and therefore can reduce the chances of razor burn and help you to avoid razor burn.

Shaving with shaving cream can help to avoid razor burn. When you avoid shaving with shaving cream it is important to realize that you can reduce the shaving burn that can come.

Ensuring that you moisturize after the shave has been completed is another great way to avoid razor burn. Moisturizing with a high intensity cream or ointment can help to reduce the irritation which can occur on the skin from the razor blade being used to shave the skin.

Shaving the skin is an exfoliant and can also be a natural irritant and therefore the razor burn can easily occur as the top layer of the skin cells are being removed from the skin – leaving the skin vulnerable to irritation.

Use a shaving cream that allows you to become completely moisturized while insuring the skin is fully protected through the process of shaving. This will reduce the chances of razor burn occurring on the skin, especially while shaving sensitive parts of the body such as the underarms, back of the knees and the neck area.

Shaving in the direction of the growth is also a great way to reduce the chances of the skin being irritated by the act of shaving. Shaving against the growth of the hair is one of the quickest ways to develop the irritation that comes with razor burn, especially when there is no protection that is used between the skin and the razor to help ease the razor blade along the skin, such as shaving gel or shaving cream.

Although there is no real way that you can prevent razor burn from shaving 100% of the time these measures can be used to reduce the chances of razor burn developing from shaving. Ensuring that you moisturize after you are finished shaving and that you use the correct razor blade with shaving cream are all methods which can reduce the irritation that comes in the form of small itchy red bumps. These red and itchy bumps can appear and last for upwards of a week and become additionally irritated if they are scratched.

Essential oils and moisturizers are often an effective way to treat razor burn and they can be used after shaving to soothe the skin from the roughness of shaving with a razor blade.
